Evangelical music in the present time: some reflections on the relationship between religion, media and society Eliane Hilario da Silva Martinoff Municipal University of São Caetano do Sul (USCS) elmartinoff@uscs.edu.br Abstract. This article discusses the role of music in evangelical worship, the changes suffered especially since the 1970s, and the influence of the media on some aspects of evangelical music today, notably from the 1980s onwards through the purchase of Record Network for the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and the founding of the Church Reborn in Christ in 1986, hinos evangélicos which has had, since its beginning, a striking attitude in the use of the mass media, especially radio and television, and in the organization of events held in sportive gyms and the so-called gospel shows, in which several bands performed. A bibliographical research was carried out on the concept of gospel music and the relations between theological discourse and musical behavior in the different social layers. It was concluded that the close relationship between music, media and religiosity affects the cultic and social behavior of this segment of Christianity.
